Description
Goals
- Create "sections" of music with clear meaning / thematic content that might be useful for Traipse or Move-style pieces.
- Learn from other choreographers.
Approach
- Use time in studio to explore choreo concepts / arrangement
- Use evenings to sample Keshet, Albuquerque
- Use remaining time to compose on Octatrack
- Prep questions every day to ask others
Ideas for studio time
- regular improv: search through tracks for inspiration, use that for own Octatrack composition
- "lyrical" choreo arrangements (rhyming, variation)
- breaking from one zone into another
- X-pattern improv
- odd-timed movement phrase that only makes sense when the jiuchi enters
Wrap-up
Life-changing! I realized the value of residencies for creative time. I met Stephanie, Erin, and Minh! And I'm going back to Keshet this month (Sept 2019) to get a video of Whoa. Excited to have a continuing relationship with the organization.
