Time in Studio:

Location:

Talked LATI shop then showed DW Binkbeats.  Both really inspired to try and do that.

My plan: bring new instrument or idea to every practice.  If we start to falter in this particular piece, try covering Gengakki or one of David's pieces.

Instrument:
Minutes On Instrument:
20
Other Participants:
David Wells
Notes:

Tried to listen to mp3 online and internet was slow.  Did best to remember melody from notes and then moved on.

Showed the hi-hat pattern I've been working on but it didn't inspire anything in particular.

Showed the Boba groove and that was more inspiring.

Tried chappa on top of Acorn groove.  Would certainly work as a featured instrument but started asking questions about how it would play a supporting role...
- A sparser pattern (po pu ke ki) seemed to fit well, perhaps because Acorn is already so full.
- Rubbing the chappa together was a beautiful sound but it didn't work as a "drone" or "pad" for me, perhaps because it was too attention grabbing.  Using it as a lead-in to a sparse pattern felt great.

to-do's for Kris:
- prep case(s) for equipment
- make list of all equipment needed for looping and other tasks
- DONE email Ian about tips for buying pitched bowls
- DONE copy davidCollab2017 folder to thumbdrive and make note to do that before practice each week
- ask David what the 16 most important chappa sounds are and record them
- practice Boba groove; watching the video, it's really rough!
