brush fundamentals, first steps

Figure out a set of brush fundamental skills and drills to practice them.

RL / LR alternating sharp swipes
accented sharp swipes
paradiddle and paradiddlediddle

 

Wrap-up

Still lots of fundamentals work required but "first steps" feel complete.  My weakest part is now "zones".  Creating a new project for that!

shime experiment: pitch drop after 48 hours

After a recent rehearsal we debated about whether we should loosen the shime.  It wasn't at maximum tension and we intended to practice again in two days.  We decided to leave it tight and record videos at the start and end.

Although slight, there is a noticeable drop in pitch upon close listening.  To me, this indicates that for a drum at that tension, being left for that long, we should have loosened the drum.
