How can technology / gear improve our taiko practice and performance? What gear do I recommend? What do I recommend against?
Where I'm coming from
- aspiring composer. Buying gear with performing, recording, touring in mind.
- not focused on ROI
- want to own as few things as possible, for as long as possible
- practice alone and with one other person, every day
- vegan, except for taiko
- environmentalist, except for music gear
Goal of tech: feedback
Playing along to pre-recorded music is one of the key ways drummers can learn and grow. Compared to other genres like rock and jazz, however, few taiko players and taiko groups take advantage of the practice technique. Playing along to music that makes me want to drum has profoundly improved the quality of my practice and the strength of my playing. This workshop explains some of the effective procedures for individual and group practice that have worked for me, with an eye on the significant benefits, and the limits, of practicing along to music.
Later start due to dentist appointment. Feeling motivated to try and pull something together for Low remix.
Forgot to take notes. Basically long composition session. Was low energy at moments but ultimately proved productive and fun. M wrote a nice melody.
Took day off to help Mark with bike.
Short day to let M continue to recover from cold. Thinking about how to improve my melodic creativity all the time.
