This dramatic lecture/demonstration uses lighted bachi, long exposure photography, and videography to give participants a new way to visualize the basic strike. With detailed feedback on mechanics, each player receives a video allowing detailed comparison of their strike with that of the facilitator.

Improvised collaboration with Kristy Oshiro (naname + multi-drum)

Staff and students of Asano Taiko US and Los Angeles Taiko Institute (LATI) present contemporary and traditionally inspired taiko repertoire in their end-of-year recital.  Performances are interspersed with explanations of the roots and context of taiko and commentary on the challenges and joys of learning Japanese drums.

Kris and friends perform at Grand Annex.  Community taiko group, "Team Taiko" opens the show, followed by new and established taiko works.  The show's second half will feature rice-pounding and taiko group, Mochi Mochi, with audience participation and fresh mochi.
