Goal

Improve ability to improv in 21 for performance of AP2.

Plan

Practice daily to no-solo track.
A good goal would be 14 practices between now and gig.

Wrap-up

Very pleased with this arrangement of the piece and my progress on improvising rhythm and movement over the beat!  In the end, I stuck fairly closely to my scripted solo but when I strayed, I didn't lose the beat.

I made my goal of 14 practices, many of which were fairly inspired.

Options for continued work:

  • take a break
    If uninspired to continue practicing rhythm/movement improv over recording, put a reminder in your calendar to revisit at a later date.
  • revisit the jiuchi and solo structure
    Working with Blaine and Kaz, find ways to make the jiuchi more inspiring.  We could rework everything around a single soloist (with another person taking a Suga 3 solo, and the remaining person getting a feature elsewhere).
  • create another scripted solo
  • pick a movement I want to be able to use in improv and figure out when it is best deployed in the bar
