Description

Goal

Prepare a revised version of Handtagonism with Vivian for (unspecified) performance.  Goal is to play piece at ??? tempo looking good and creating successful choreography.

Plan

steps

  • revise
  • practice with extensive drills
  • stress test

suggestions/ideas

  • VL focus on finding more comfortable stance ("looks like I'm leaning forward")
  • name all drills in case they prove worth repeating or teaching others
  • when doing a drill, check three things
  1. timing of hits
  2. choreography (from audience perspective)
  3. dynamics

Wrap-up

So pleased with this project!  Really proud we pulled this off for Grand Annex.  My Tornado and Corax still felt a little wild but I survived.  I'm interested to see the video but am a little worried the new choreo won't look as compelling as I'm imagining.  Really, really liked working with Vivian and hope she'll continue to be inspired to work on naname.

Options for further work

  • watch video (after taking a suitable break) and evaluate the following
    overall development (rhythm -> movement)
    choreo execution (KB and VL)
relationship of KM backbeat and phrases (for Traipse)
  • develop next-level spinning drills for Tornado and Corax
  • incorporate VL choreo (as a replacement for least-favorite part, or in addition)

Pitfalls

Risk of failure:
Fragility (disintigration in performance)
Solution:
Run whole thing as soon and as frequently as possible. Create pressure-inducing pre-gig performance opps.
Risk of failure:
Tempo issues
Solution:
Use tracks/met. when composing. Be very specific about goal tempo with all parties. Practice slower and faster than goal speed.
