Description

Goal(s)

  • to be able to incporate movent in improvised playing
  • to understand how to align significant movements with significant musical events
  • to be able to tastefully change themes and tones
  • to be able to build from simple to complex movement

Plan

Play along to tracks frequently... daily, if possible.  Experiment with ways to limit complexity at the beginning of a theme.  Practice for a long time within a particular theme or tone to be able to stretch the time I'm in that zone before I start repeating myself.  Use inspiring tracks for movement build practice.  (You only get one or two of these moments during practice, so make the most of it!)

With changing of ATUS studio access, I'll retire this long-term practice target.  I'll continue to practice naname improv but it will likely be more focused on specific goals.

Pitfalls

Risk of failure:
Interest in the long-term project fades.
Solution:
Create way-point measures for self.
Risk of failure:
Practices stick to easier "rhythm" practice and don't get to "movement".
Solution:
Do physical warmups. Let yourself practice whatever you want but after practicing a rhythmic thing for a while, try and incorporate it into a larger movement build, as a beginning or as a break from movement, etc.
