Visited by Jerry (and Adam) of Eddy's Sewing to help with problem of breaking thread and non-functional cutter.
Problem 1: needle must be insert with groove to R (manual says L so we were doing it opposite).
Problem 2: hook (kama) was scratched. Sanded with fine sandpaper to make smooth.
Problem 3: thread tension was too high
Problem 4: upper thread tension was too high (causes remaining tail to be too short)
Problem 5: solenoid was stuck. Raps with a hammer and dripping oil over the mechanisms fixed it.
Problem 6: foot paddle angle was too low (for Hiro)
Suggestions: use size 12 needle for t-shirt fabric, 16 for denim. Polyester 30 (30%?) is probably the strongest thread. As for long-term maintenance, just make sure oil shows in the view bulb when running.
