Description

Compile recent choreography work into solo piece.

Main issues: How to transition between rhythm and movement?  Overall arrangement of the two?

Main question: How should I transition from rhythm-focus to movement-focus?

Current ideas

1) movement inspired by rhythm
rhythm develops until movement feels the natural next step

1a - launch: Rhythm leads to a strong "1" and movement begins as the ricochet from "don" (imagine a rocket launch countdown).
4-8-16 (obvious development through sparse->busy): future
melodic phrases:
tihai 4-2-4-2-4 (2-5-2-5-2 to return?!): R arm and both-arms versions

1b - key strikes: Important notes in the rhythm (like 2/4 and busy 3 in NG6) serve as anchors, waypoints, and surprise.
anchors: ways to travel between 2 and 4
waypoints: skipping 2 or 4 but still adhering to tonal placement
surprise by displacement: playing 2/4 accent a little early or late
surprise by playing over barline:

Additional question

What are satisfying arrangements of the rhythm/movement continuum over the course of a piece?

Pitfalls

Risk of failure:
Ambition becomes stifling
Solution:
Use idea that "this solo represents my choreography and new phase" only when it's inspiring. Use "whatever I do will be new to these listeners" to take pressure off when necessary.
Risk of failure:
Performance meltdown
Solution:
Especially for through-composed sections, practice improvising around phrases so I'm not too wed to a particular sticking.
