Taiko and dance duo, Arugakki, presents the premier of Harbor, an ambitious work created through Grand Vision Foundation's first Artist in Residency program.
Taiko drummer Kristofer Bergstrom and contemporary dancer Minh Nguyen spent much of their quarantine at The Grand Annex in San Pedro, composing, choreographing, and building a unique performance piece influenced by the heavy industry of the Port of Los Angeles and steeped in 2020's complexity of emotions.
The resulting 30-minute piece features taiko drums, piano, and synthesizers behind dance and drum choreography set within a massive stage construction. Bergstrom says, "Harbor is more performance art than traditional taiko or dance. It was built from the moment, at a tumultuous time."
