Concepts
- composite time signature: repeated series of sub-beat groupings. i.e. "779" "4/4 4/4 7/16"
- "clave" represents the 2, and 3 sub-beat mini-groupings
- melodic lines don't follow rhythm's sub-beat groupings
- melodic emphasis uses "pickups" and note "landings" to emphasize other sub-beat groupings
- using two simultaneous sub-beat groupings can emphasize the "1" (or wherever they align)
- Interrupting Thumb for counting fast "5", "7", and "9"
