My friend, Ron, heard of this restaurant in a YouTube video on pizza making. The narrator was excited about it. "L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele opening soon in Los Angeles!" Hiro and I jumped at the chance to try it with Ron. And it's absolutely wonderful!
The restaurant design is wonderfully inviting. It's high ceilings, open garden, and balcony are beautiful and airy. The staff is charming and friendly. "Do you have a reservation? No worries! Who needs a reservation?! Right this way!" It turns out two of my past taiko students, Rossella and Michele, work there... And Michele is head pizzaiolo!
Ron ordered the margherita with cheese and Hiro and I ordered what we thought were two pizzas with lots of veggies; arugula, potato, and lemon (hold the calimari and cheese) on one, and eggplant and peppers (hold the cheese) on another. It turned out we had ordered salads. Ha! Apparently, I wasn't looking closely at the menu sections. But the salads were amazing, so we happily ate half and ordered another margherita (hold the cheese) and put the remainder on top. That was amazing too!
We'll definitely go back. If you want to try it, let us know, and we'll join you!
